Full Size Backsaver Hoof Stands

Models HS-1L with 3 legs and HS-1R with round aluminum base,

15-25" height range

The HS-1L and HS-1R full size stands include the 4-way position Grip Head, Flip-up Hoof Cradle and Handle function, Push-Pull Height Adjustment Selector, and spring-loaded inner shaft for rapid height adjustment. By removing the inner stand shaft you can use the Hoof Cradle at its lowest height of 15" on these full size hoof stands and 9" minimum height on the Backsaver Shorty stand.

Low-Profile 3 Leg and Round Aluminum Disc Bases

Backsaver stands come with interchangeable 3-leg and round disc bases. The legs are made from heavy duty channel steel, bent to raise the stand shaft slightly above the ground. Round bases are 15" diameter aluminum discs formed with a raised center. Both designs have a low profile that makes it easy for you to brace the stand with only a portion of your foot. Unlike molded round plastic hoof stand bases, these designs allow you to place your foot anywhere around the stand shaft. That gives you greater freedom to brace the stand or hoof all around the stand base. If you purchase one type of base and do not like it, you can simply get the other style and bolt it on to your stand shaft. 3-Leg bases are somewhat more stable than round ones on uneven, rough, or soft surfaces.

9-15" height range

This down-sized Backsaver is ideal for use on full size horses with stiff legs, ponies, and minis. It includes the dual position Grip Head with flip-up Hoof Cradle and Handle function, as well as the Push-Pull Height Adjustment Selector. The 'Shorty' also comes with a Cradle Extension that inserts in either side of the Cradle to hold small hooves in place so that you have both hands free to operate your nippers. A powerful magnet on the stand shaft provides a secure storage position for the Cradle Extension when not in use.

The Push--Pull Height Adjustment Selector

The spring-loaded Height Adjuster enables you to instantly shift stand height up or down in 1" increments. No pin to pull or screw knobs to turn. It also provides a place to store the Hoof Cradle. This Push-Button height adjuster, combined with an inner shaft spring that automatically elevates the inner shaft, makes the Backsavers faster and easier to change height than any other hoof stand design. Combined with the Flip-Up Hoof Cradle, you can switch from using the Grip Head at 22" to the Hoof Cradle at 15" in one swift motion.

The Grip Head -- Flip-Up Hoof Cradle & Handle Unit

The Backsaver Grip Head has a sure-grip surface that prevents the hoof from slipping when rasping the outer wall. The Flip-Up Hoof Cradle mounts on the side of the Grip Head and pivots up or down. This allows you to instantly shift from Grip Head to Hoof Cradle use. In addition, the Hoof Cradle serves as a convenient carrying handle.

The narrow profile of this Hoof Cradle has advantages over wider, longer hoof cradle designs. It enables you to adjust the angle of the hoof in the cradle and provides better access to the outer hoof wall as you operate nippers and rasps.

This design not only supports the weight of the horses leg. It enables you to brace the stand with one foot or knee, keeping your knees apart, and giving you more effective use of your arms and tools. You can use the cradle on both front and hind legs so you do not have to hold the hoof with both knees.

Pairing Standard and Shorty Backsaver's for maximum efficiency

Using both sizes of the Backsaver interchangeably as you trim each horse provides you with the maximum advantages. Use the Grip Head and Flip-Up Hoof Cradle from 9" to 26". Many full sized horses have stiff muscles or crooked joints, particularly on hind limbs, that make it difficult to work at the full height of the standard design. By using both sizes of the Backsaver you can switch between these as needed.
