Creating a smooth rounded edge along the perimeter of the hoof wall is essential for maintaining durable hoof shape and the healthy function of the 'Mustang Roll.' The Radius Rasp has a concave form specially designed to remove wall horn in an arc. This action makes the task of rounding the wall edge easier, faster, and more precise than when using rasps that create flat surfaces. Because it can be used one-handed, the other hand is freed to hold and steady the hoof while rasping. Hoof care professionals and horse owners alike will find this tool indispensable. There are two types of Radius Rasp: the rasp-toothed black-handled RR-2 for beginning the rounding of the hoof wall and quickly cut through the hardened layers of the outer hoof wall. The Radius Rasp has finger grooves that provide you with a firm, comfortable grip. These tools work best using many quick, light pressure strokes. The Radius Rasp has powerful magnets in the handle to attach them to your hoof stand, horse trailer, or other steel surface and has a replaceable stainless steel blades that will not rust.

RR-2
The Radius Rasp-2 'PRO'-- Replaceable Solid Stainless Steel Blade with Standard Rasp Teeth

The RR-2 is a more aggressive wall rounding tool that rapidly creates the arc of the Mustang Roll during normal trimming. Its curve allows you to rasp well above the outer bearing surface of the hoof wall to extend the arc of the 'roll' upward. It leaves a rougher finish but cuts faster through the hardened outer layers of the hoof wall. It rapidly smooths the edges left by a 'beveling' nipper cut around the outer edge of the wall. In many cases it can create the basic contour of the Mustang Roll without first making a 'bevel' cut with your nippers. If you are doing a lot of trimming or dealing with hard hooves, the RR-2 is an essential tool. Like the RR-1 it is 4 1/2" long and 2" wide, but weighs 13 oz.

RR-1
The Radius Rasp-1 -- with Replaceable Perforated Stainless Steel Shaving Blade

The RR-1 has a perforated blade with razor sharp teeth that can be repeatedly re-sharpened using the Evo Honing Pad to extend the useful life of the blade. It has a powerful magnet in the handle that attaches to any steel surface. This blade is ideal for shaping the full contour of the Mustang Roll and removes horn very rapidly. It is most effective when applied after using the RR-2, a standard flat rasp, or hoof nippers to remove any hard outer layer of hoof horn.

Re-Sharpening the RR-1 Blade

The Radius Rasp-1 perforated shaving blade has razor sharp stainless steel teeth created in a special photo etching process. With extensive use the teeth can become rough. Using the Evo Honing Pad, you can repeatedly re-sharpen these teeth to greatly extend the useful live of each blade.
